ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The crew manning a missing Newfoundland fishing vessel has been located.

Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey published a tweet Friday night saying the entire province is "relieved" to learn the crew aboard the Elite Navigator has been found alive.

Furey says the crew members are being returned safely to their families.

It's not known where the crew was found, nor the state of the Elite Navigator.

Lt.-Cmdr. Len Hickey, with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax, reported Thursday that the boat was reported over due.

The vessel's responder had last transmitted a signal at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

The fishing industry is vital to Newfoundland and Labrador's coastal communities, with many linked by the grief of losing members of their communities to one of the deadliest professions in Canada.
