MONTREAL - Police say a seven-year-old girl has died from her injuries after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene this morning in central Montreal.

Police spokesman Const. Raphael Bergeron says a man in his 40s is currently being questioned by investigators and may have been driving the vehicle.

Multiple calls were made to 911 at around 8:05 a.m. reporting the incident on Parthenais Street, east of the city's downtown.

Police assisted the young victim before paramedics took charge and transported her to a Montreal hospital.

Authorities say the driver left the scene before police and first responders arrived.

Police said earlier in the day that they would be speaking with witnesses and looking at security camera footage.
