Chicago Wolves head coach Bob Nardella has denied directing a homophobic remark toward an official a day after receiving a 10-game suspension from the American Hockey League.

The AHL said in a statement announcing the suspension Tuesday that Nardella used homophobic language when he was given a game misconduct for abuse of officials in Chicago's 8-5 loss at the Texas Stars on Saturday.

The league did not provide detail on what Nardella is alleged to have said.

Nardella said in a statement released Wednesday that while he admits to losing his temper, he did not say what he is accused of saying.

Nardella says he condemns homophobic language and conduct and has "tremendous respect" for the league and its officials.

The Wolves, who do not have an affiliation with an NHL team, have a rematch with the Stars at home on Saturday.
